Healthy Eating
Initiatives that demonstrate how children have the confidence, skills and understanding to make healthy food choices and where healthy and nutritious food and drink is made available. Initiatives or programmes may include one or more elements such as
food preparation and handling skills; food hygiene; analysing existing products; where food comes from; how it is grown; the cultural aspects of food; practical work with food; the importance of various food groups and types.
Physical Activity
An initiative or project that provides children with an opportunity to be physically active and helps them understand how physical activity can help them to be healthier and can improve, and be part of, everyday life. Programmes in this category might include one or more elements such as giving young people a chance to become involved in sports; encouraging and involving children and young people in active recreation other than traditional sport.
Personal and Social Health
A project which promotes PSH and provides children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed choices and decisions about their lives. Initiatives for this category may include one or more elements that help young people get wise about sex and relationships; drug, alcohol and tobacco misuse.
Emotional Health and Wellbeing
An initiative that promotes positive emotional health and wellbeing and helps children to understand and express their feelings, helps build their confidence and emotional resilience and therefore their capacity to learn and develop. Initiatives or programmes may include one or more elements such as anti bullying projects; promotion of activities which actively combat stigma and discrimination; peer relationships.
Safety and Citizenship
Initiatives that promote and improve child safety by developing knowledge and skills to enable them to remain safe in a variety of harmful environments and encourage good citizenship by furnishing children and young people with knowledge and understanding of how their actions and behaviour impacts on the community they live in. Entries for this category could include one or more elements such as personal safety; road safety; internet safety; projects tackling gun or knife crime.
